Epic Oncology Scheduling Consultant

Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

Avery Partners is recruiting on behalf of a healthcare client actively engaged in an Epic optimization initiative focused on Medical and Surgical Oncology scheduling. The organization is seeking an experienced Independent Contractor (IC) with direct, hands-on expertise in Epic's Cadence or Beacon module to support a defined scope of scheduling workflow improvements.

This is a project-based engagement requiring a consultant who can hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up time. The ideal candidate will bring a strong operational understanding of oncology scheduling workflows — not simply technical configuration knowledge — and will be comfortable working collaboratively with clinical and operational stakeholders.

SCOPE OF WORK

The consultant will support the following optimization workstreams:

  • Template Optimization — review, restructure, and optimize provider scheduling templates for Medical and Surgical Oncology providers
  • Visit Type Optimization — evaluate and refine visit type configurations to align with current clinical workflows and access goals
  • Block Optimization — analyze and update block scheduling rules and protocols for med/surg oncology providers
  • Decision Tree Implementation — potential build and deployment of scheduling decision trees specific to Medical and Surgical Oncology provider templates

Important Note: This engagement is scoped exclusively to Medical and Surgical Oncology scheduling. Infusion scheduling is outside the scope of this role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active Epic Cadence or Beacon certification (must be verifiable)
  • Hands-on Oncology scheduling experience is required — Medical and/or Surgical Oncology strongly preferred
  • Operational knowledge of template, visit type, and block scheduling configuration within Epic
  • Experience with or exposure to Epic decision tree build within scheduling workflows
  • Ability to work independently as an IC with clear deliverables and defined timelines
  • Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate with clinical, operational, and IT stakeholders

Beacon Consideration: Candidates with Beacon certification who have experience working with treatment plans that interface with scheduling workflows will be considered, even if primary background is not Cadence-focused.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior consulting or contract engagement experience in health system Epic optimization projects
  • Familiarity with access management and scheduling efficiency initiatives in oncology settings
  • Experience supporting go-live, post-live optimization, or upgrade projects within Epic environments
  • Background working within or alongside health system IT or ambulatory operations teams
